PRODUCT CARE
Each piece of Manu Atelier leather goods is meticulously crafted, blending quality, craftsmanship, time, creativity, and commitment. Our handbags are designed to last and age beautifully with time, provided they receive the necessary care and maintenance. All materials used are selected for their exceptional quality and extensively tested to ensure durability.
Every piece is different, always read and follow the care labels on the products. To extend the life of your pieces, store them in a cool, ventilated place when not in use, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight to preserve the colours and refrain from spraying cosmetic products directly on to them. Finally, take care to avoid snagging the fabric or catching it on pieces of jewellery.
Avoid overfilling your handbags and small leather goods to preserve their shape and structure. To extend the life of your pieces we recommend keeping protective packaging inside your pieces whilst in storage to maintain their shape, while delicate embellishments and metal hardware should be covered with protective packaging.
Always store your handbags and small leather goods in dust bags, in an upright position, ensuring any straps or chains are placed inside of the product to avoid damage to the material. Furthermore, all fastenings should be properly closed whilst in storage.
Please note, all types of leather and delicate materials – including metal accessories and hardware – are affected by humidity, salt, and environmental factors, which can lead to permanent wear. Please take care to avoid direct contact with water, salt, heat, oil, grease and alcohol, and other abrasive substances alongside any materials which may transfer colour pigments onto your product. Slight variations in appearance and finish are entirely normal for all natural materials.
To maintain the condition and longevity of your Manu Atelier product, we recommend following care instructions below.
MATERIAL SPECIFIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
Calf Leather:
Through a rigorous selection process, calfskin and cowhide leathers are chosen for their refinement, suppleness and silky touch. To meet the highest quality standards, only the best hides are selected. They may carry natural imperfections, such as veins or wrinkles.
These carefully selected leathers can be compromised with the use of any commercial cleaners. Elements such as oils, make up, perfumes, creams or sanitizers applied to the leather can compromise its natural beauty and performance capabilities. For surface stains, we recommend cleaning with a soft, damp cloth with water.
Vegetable Tanned Calf Leather:
A hallmark of the natural vegetable tanned cowhide leather is its transparency, which reveals natural markings such as veins and wrinkles. This delicate, easily scratched leather will develop a rich amber patina, unique to each bag, and a greater suppleness in time. This patina, along with wear acquired through use, signifies proof of the product’s authenticity and journey alongside the owner.
Should this leather encounter water, blot immediately with a lint-free light coloured, absorbent cloth. Cleaning with any solvents or chemicals is not recommended, please note all type of chemicals can compromise the quality and integrity of the leather as it wears in time.
Suede & Nubuck:
Suedes and nubucks are aniline leathers that do not have a protective finish, this means they are very absorbent and susceptible to stubborn staining. Should your suede or nubuck pieces come into contact with water, they should immediately be blotted with a dry cloth to absorb any excess liquid. Please be aware, due to the nature of this material group, there may be a small amount of colour transfer.
Lambskin:
Lambskin is known for its softness and luxurious texture, but it is also more delicate and susceptible to scratches and scuffs. Due to its sensitive nature, extra care should be taken to avoid contact with rough surfaces and sharp objects. It is recommended to keep lambskin bags away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent fading and warping. Should your lambskin piece come into contact with water, use a soft, dry cloth to remove any excess and to avoid the formation of any stains or bubbles during drying.
Canvas and Textiles:
Canvas is a resilient material made from natural cotton fibers. However, please note that the color may fade over time with exposure to light.
Metallic and Printed Materials:
Metallic and printed materials have a surface finish, meaning everyday wear and excessive abrasions can cause the finishing to be removed. Metallic and printed materials with a particularly smooth finish may develop wrinkles or creasing over time. To clean, gently wipe with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth and dry immediately away from direct heat. Cleaning products and liquids containing solvents and alcohol should be avoided as these will remove the finish. Metallic and printed materials should be stored away from humidity and sources of heat.
Vegan Leather / Vegan Patent:
Vegan leather is a quite durable material due to its coating but it can still become marked with wear. It needs to be cared for in order to maintain optimum condition. To maintain the stretch finish, the product should be handled with due care.
Handwoven Crochet:
Woven raffia is a handmade natural quality. Care should be taken to avoid excessive abrasion as any damage to the threads cannot be repaired.
Brushed Leather:
Brushed leather is a relatively strong leather but as a natural material, can age with time, as the colour might change with wear and exposure to light. The mellowing of the colour is a feature of this beautiful natural material and should not be considered as a defect. It can become marked with wear and as with all leather products, needs to be cared for in order to maintain optimum condition
